WickedSmartPad – AWS Middleware for Incontinence Monitoring System

Client Overview

Client: WickedSmartPad

Industry: Healthcare

Problem: Develop backend pipelines to support incontinence detection and caregiver alerting for hospitals and nursing homes. Improve patient care and operational responsiveness.

The Challenge

WickedSmartPad’s original backend had limitations. Their architecture didn’t support key features needed by users, and their team didn’t have the bandwidth or infrastructure in place to add them easily. ShillehTek was brought in to build cloud-native pipelines to bridge that gap and ensure their platform could scale and adapt to user demand.

Our Approach

We designed new middleware in AWS, leaning on serverless infrastructure and state machines to build clear, maintainable ETL pipelines. These workflows allowed their system to react more flexibly to events, and the approach kept costs low while enabling future extensibility.

Technologies, Tools, and Platforms Used

  • AWS DynamoDB
  • AWS Lambda
  • AWS Step Functions
  • AWS API Gateway
  • AWS Certificate Manager
  • AWS EC2
  • Blynk IoT Platform

AWS was chosen because the client was already using parts of it, and expanding on that stack kept the system unified and easy to document. Our solutions are now baked into their core infrastructure without creating extra operational burden.

The Solution

  • Webhook-based data ingestion from Blynk IoT into AWS API Gateway
  • Lambda-backed state machines to process and route incoming data
  • ETL pipelines built with Step Functions and DynamoDB for scalable workflows
  • Integration with their existing backend to avoid system rewrites
  • Documentation and testing performed for each new endpoint and flow
  • Code and pipeline releases successfully deployed to production

We focused on working with their stable Blynk infrastructure instead of reinventing it. This saved engineering cost, respected their original design, and allowed them to grow the system intelligently without a full rewrite.

The Outcome

Two new production-ready pipelines were added to the existing system. These workflows gave WickedSmartPad the flexibility they needed while keeping their original platform intact. The foundation is now in place for future work around telemetry and broader API expansion.

Client Feedback

The client was highly satisfied and continues working with us to support their growth and roadmap.

Impact

No public metrics at this time, but the architecture is built to scale, and the new functionality is now live across production deployments.
